I Support the Ethics Trial in NSW Primary Schools
Dear Jodi McKay
I am writing to add my strong support for the Ethics Trial [more].
Scripture classes are not monitored and I have heard pretty awful stories from teacher friends about the things they've heard scripture 'teachers' tell children as the truth-that pretty innocuous behaviour (things like kissing a boy) will send them to hell or that the truth about the world is that it was created 6000 years ago in 6 days.
I don't think my child should be punished because I'm concerned about what strange ideas could be planted in his head by complete strangers whose 'lessons' are not vetted at all by the school or anyone else. Why should he have to sit and be bored when he could be learning valuable life lessons from volunteers exactly like these scripture teachers except their lessons have an approved and tested content, trialled with success? It's a travesty this kind of option hasn't been offered before.
I vote and I am passionate about this issue and quite happy to make a fuss about it. Looking forward to hearing your response!
